John alone records that Jesus was taken to Annas’ palace prior to the trial before the Sanhedrin. As the High Priest, Annas would be the proper one to approve sacrifices before they were offered. Jesus was going to be the sacrifice for sinners. Peter’s denials bookend Jesus’ in Annas’ palace and serve as a clear picture of man’s need of a Savior.
